We have introduced the phased array OLYMPUS OmniScan SX.

At Civil Tech, we have introduced the OLYMPUS OmniScan SX for phased array ultrasonic testing (UT), which is increasingly being adopted in non-destructive testing applications.

Phased array ultrasonic testing is a type of ultrasonic inspection method that uses multiple ultrasonic elements and electronically generated time delays to produce controlled beams, enabling accurate and high-speed inspections. The OLYMPUS OmniScan SX allows electronic beam steering, scanning, sweeping, and focusing, making faster inspections possible. It also enables full data storage and inspections over a wide range of viewing angles.

Phased array technology differs from conventional ultrasonic probes, which typically consist of a single transducer (piezoelectric element). Instead, it uses multiple elements, each independently controlled in terms of transmission and reception timing. By synthesizing ultrasonic wavefronts in this way, the ultrasonic beam can be precisely controlled. This allows inspectors to freely adjust the incident angle and focal depth, making it possible to perform inspections in confined or difficult-to-access areas that were challenging with conventional ultrasonic testing methods. In addition, because inspection results can be evaluated and verified through imaging, it is easy to confirm the location, size, and shape of defects, as well as to obtain an overall understanding of the inspection area.
